The Kendal Regency Government has once again achieved a remarkable national-level accomplishment. During the 2024 Special Allocation Fund or in Indonesia known as Dana Alokasi Khusus (DAK) Infrastructure Implementation Work Meeting held in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Kendal Regency was awarded as the Best City/Regency for the Implementation of the 2023 Irrigation DAK by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing through the Regional Infrastructure Facilitation Center.

At a press conference held at the Abdi Praja building in the Kendal Regent's Office complex on July 5, 2024, the Head of the Water Resources Division of the Kendal Public Works and Public Housing Office, Koiruridho, explained that the award was based on strict criteria such as compliance and completeness of reporting, physical and financial progress, and achievement of outputs and immediate outcomes. Kendal Regency's success in all these aspects has proven their dedication and effectiveness in utilizing the DAK efficiently.

In 2023, Kendal Regency successfully realized two major irrigation network rehabilitation projects. The first project was in the Wonorejo Irrigation Area. Kedungsuren Village, South Kaliwungu District, with a contract value of IDR 2,348,444,000. This project included the construction of a dam, a 1,179-meter secondary channel, seven intake/diversion structures, one measurement structure, and a 114-meter cliff safety structure. This infrastructure successfully irrigated 188.6 hectares of rice fields in Sidomakmur, Jerukgiling, and Kedungsuren Villages, significantly boosting agricultural production in the area.

The second project was in the Gruyung Irrigation Area, Pucakwangi Village, Pageruyung District, with a contract value of IDR 1,977,001,517. This project involved the construction of a dam, a 154-meter secondary channel, and four intake/diversion structures. This infrastructure provided better water supply to 33.15 hectares of rice fields in Pucakwangi Village, contributing to increased agricultural yields.

Koiruridho emphasized that this success was due to comprehensive planning and development within an integrated irrigation network system, covering all components from main structures to supplementary structures. "The positive impact is evident in the increased agricultural production, supporting food security, especially in Kendal Regency," he said.

In addition to technical achievements, Kendal Regency has also shown a strong commitment to sustainable water resource management. With 686 irrigation areas managing an area of 10,427 hectares, significant challenges remain. However, with 65.25% of the area served by a good irrigation network, Kendal continues to strive to improve the coverage and quality of irrigation services.

This award aligns with the mission of the Kendal Regency Government in the 2021-2026 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan, which aims to realize solid, equitable, and just infrastructure development while considering environmental sustainability. "One of our targets is to improve the management of water resources and irrigation systems, both primary and secondary, in irrigation areas under 1,000 hectares," added Koiruridho.

With these various achievements, Kendal Regency not only demonstrates success in implementing the Irrigation DAK but also serves as a model for other regions in managing and optimizing irrigation resources to support sustainable agricultural development.
